Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Abdomen Without Contrast
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the abdomen is a type of scan which uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed images of the organs and structures within the abdomen. The scan is performed without contrast, meaning a contrast dye is not used.
Magnetic resonance imaging of the abdomen can be used to identify problems in the organs and structures of the abdomen, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, coronary artery disease, and abdominal aortic aneurysm. It can also be used to view small lesions or changes within the abdomen which may affect the production and release of hormones, acid, or enzymes.
During the MRI scan, you will be asked to lie down on a table that slides inside the scanner, and you will be asked to remain still to ensure clear images are created. The MRI scanner will create a loud humming or knocking sound, and you will be provided with headphones to wear in order to reduce the noise. The scan typically takes around 30 minutes to complete.
After the scan is complete, you should be able to resume your normal activities without any restrictions. The images will be seen by a radiologist (a doctor who specializes in radiology), and the results will be provided to your doctor.
Magnetic resonance imaging of the abdomen without contrast is a safe and painless procedure used to create detailed images of the organs and structures of the abdomen. The scan does not require any preparation or any recovery time, and the results will be provided to your doctor who will be able to determine any abnormalities seen in the images.
