Computerized Tomography Angiography of Head with Dye
Computerized Tomography Angiography of Head with Dye is a diagnostic imaging test that uses X-rays, dye injection, and computer technology to provide cross-sectional images of the brain and brain vessels.
Computerized Tomography Angiography of Head with Dye is used to evaluate blood vessels in the brain and to diagnose conditions such as aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), and strokes. It can also be used to evaluate tumors, calcifications, and clots.
Before the test, you may be asked to remove any metal objects from your head or body in order to avoid interference with the procedure. During the procedure, you will receive an injection of a dye/contrast material that will make the blood vessels in the head visible on the images. A series of X-ray images will be taken as the dye passes through the brain’s blood vessels. The X-rays are then processed by a computer and displayed on a monitor.
After the procedure, you can expect some mild flushing, itching, or a metallic taste in the mouth. These effects will typically be mild and will pass quickly. You may also have a mild head or neck ache.
Computerized Tomography Angiography of Head with Dye is a useful diagnostic tool for identifying issues with the brain's blood vessels. This is an important test for those who have symptoms of stroke, aneurysms, tumors, calcifications, clots, or arteriovenous malformations. With the use of dye injections and X-rays, the images of the brain and blood vessels are generated and displayed for the doctor to evaluate.
