Examination and Repairing of Nasal Septum
An examination and repairing of nasal septum is a medical procedure used to diagnose and treat the deviated septum. The procedure is also known as septoplasty. It is performed when the nasal septum, the wall that divides the two sides of the nose, is deviated or abnormally shaped. It is done to improve nasal breathing and to correct any aesthetic issues with the nose.
The examination and repair of a deviated septum may be recommended to alleviate chronic sinus and nasal pain, difficulty breathing, frequent nosebleeds, and snoring. Additionally, this procedure may be recommended to improve the appearance of the nose.
During the examination and repair of a deviated septum, the surgeon will first inspect the nose and note any nasal obstructions or other abnormalities. Imaging scans may be taken to obtain a better view of what is happening in the nasal cavity. Small incisions in the tissue of the septum can then be made to allow the surgeon to manipulate and reshape the septum, and to remove pieces of cartilage or bone.
Following the procedure, it is common to experience some pain or soreness in the nose that can be managed with pain medication. It is important to keep the nose clean and free of any debris, one should use a saline or salt water solution to gently irrigate the nose. Swelling of the nose and face may also occur, but should improve over the next few weeks.
